In one of the most bizarre moments caught on camera this year, a woman being arrested for felony assault decided to film the entire event — from her own point of view.
The incident took place in Ontario, Canada. Police were executing a warrant for a woman suspected of attacking a coworker during a workplace altercation that had sent the victim to the hospital.
When officers arrived at her apartment, the woman answered the door with her phone already recording.
“You’re not going to do this in private,” she said to the officers. “The world’s going to see everything.”
She kept the camera rolling as officers read the charges, entered the apartment, and placed her under arrest. She offered no resistance, but made several dramatic statements about being “targeted,” calling the arrest “politically motivated” and “discriminatory.”
Later, her video was posted online and went viral. But many commenters weren’t sympathetic — especially after local police confirmed the seriousness of the charges and released video from officers’ body cams, which matched her footage exactly.
Legal analysts say while recording an arrest isn’t illegal in many areas, it doesn’t exempt anyone from the consequences of a felony charge. In this case, it may have only hurt her defense.
