It started as a fast-food robbery — and turned into a 13-year manhunt.
Police have finally caught a man who vanished after stealing $2,000 from a Burger King cash register more than a decade ago. Authorities say the suspect had been living under a fake name in another state, working odd jobs to avoid attention.
Detectives reopened the case after a new fingerprint match appeared during a background check. Within days, they tracked him down.
When arrested, the man reportedly said, “I just wanted to start over.” But for police, that wasn’t enough. “You can’t run forever,” one officer said. “Justice always catches up.”
The arrest brought closure to one of the longest-running local theft cases in the region.
Residents who remembered the original story were stunned. “Thirteen years… for $2,000,” one man said. “Was it worth it?”
